Our Philosophy

We started ECO-St (pronounced ECO Street) because we wanted to help people make a difference in the face of climate change. We don't pretend that we are going to make the planet a much cooler place but we do think that there are loads of people who want to consume less energy and need help to do it. We'd love to help the Chinese build less power stations and find ways to stop the rainforest being felled but that's not what we are about. We also understand about offsetting carbon emissions but we think it's best to help people reduce their own impact first.

None of us want to be remembered as the generation that used up all the fossil fuels and left our children's children with all the rubbish and dirt created as a result.

Our first shop is in Chinnor Garden Centre, just off the M40 on the way from London to Oxford. And our second shop is in Yarnton Nurseries Garden Centre, north of Oxford, close to Kidlington. We plan to to have 99 more shops in three years time.

And why don't we sell online? Well, there are plenty of online eco-retailers and we think that everyone will benefit from talking to our staff as well as seeing, touching and feeling the products that we sell.

For example, we have over 100 different types of energy saving lightbulb and you can see all of them working. If you do a little homework first you can work out what are the best low energy alternatives to the bulbs you use right now (Low energy light bulb finder). But rather than accept what we think you may want a different shape or brightness. And for that reason we'd like you to come and try us out.
